The Choice Point

The Choice Point is a simple, yet powerful tool for self-improvement. It can help you build your ideal self by clarifying what’s most important to you, what you’d like to avoid, and how to mindfully build the life you want through meaningful action.

Take the time each day to track your towards and away moves. Pay close attention to your feelings and journal your thoughts each day. Remember that we all make away moves every day and that's okay. When it comes to away moves ask yourself the following questions:

  1. How do I feel before and after making this away move?

  2. What emotions consistently pull me into away moves?

  3. How can I unhook and change my relationship with that emotion? (ie. Making Space)

Diagram showing two arrows diverging from a central orange circle labeled 'Choice Point'. The left arrow is red, pointing away and labeled 'HOKED', indicating a negative response when feelings are 'Away' from the situation. The right arrow is green, pointing towards and labeled 'UNHOOKED', indicating a positive response when feelings are 'Towards' the situation. The diagram is titled 'Situations, Thoughts & Feelings'.

After you’ve taken time to clarify your away moves, it’s important to understand what are you moving towards. Ask yourself the following questions:

  1. What are the towards moves that I’m already making in my life?

  2. How do I know when I’m making a towards move? What am I measuring against?

  3. What does it feel like before, during, and after making a towards move?
